3 Ways to Get More Gigs

3 Ways to Get More Gigs

As a freelance circus performer.

Do you feel like you aren’t getting enough work? Are you stuck in the same old jobs, same routines and you want to find something different? Maybe you just want some extra cash to get yourself a new set of poi. Whatever your reasons are I hope you find these pointers useful and they help you reach your goal!

The first thing that needs to be understood is that there is no ‘secret formula’ for finding more gigs, you probably suspected that. You can break down the process into two simple steps:

Do you ‘look good’ – do you have professional acts and skills? That is down to your practice and training.

Do you show people you look good? You do this through promotional material, marketing & networking.

Some artists may think that because they look good the gigs will come to them, but unless you are showing the right people how good you look you may find yourself waiting some time.

The saying “you reap what you sow” is as true in this industry as in any other. If you’re not happy with the amount of gigs you’re getting then ask yourself – are you doing the most you can to open new doors and find new opportunities?

You may or may not have heard of the ancient Three Kings proverb:

A career of a thousand gigs begins with a single email.”

Imagine yourself in a room full of 10 people all looking to employ a circus artist, would you introduce yourself to 3 of them then go home? Or would you make sure they all knew who you were?

Now imagine the room is so large you can’t even see the back wall, there’s a sea of people there, each one is known to employ circus artists and many of them are looking for acts right now!

This sounds like a dream right? Well good news; the room exists, it’s actually right here in the Three Kings offices and for a small fee you can visit – Details here.

Only joking, it’s better than that – that room is called the internet, you can access it instantly, for free at any time you want. Search around, look in all the nooks and crannies, expand your network, create contacts and propel your career forward. Most importantly – Don’t give up! For every unanswered email or declined job there is another one just waiting for someone like you to get in touch.

Almost everyone that I know has a Facebook account, it’s one of the best ways to advertise and connect with people. Facebook has more job opportunities than any other online platform by a long shot, it’s just about finding them.

Go to your search bar and type in ‘circus jobs’, see the list of groups that comes down and work your way through them. As I am writing this I took 2 minutes to browse and found 6 jobs that were posted in the last 2 days.
